SLAY YOUR DAY

SLAY YOUR DAY

Have you ever had one of those mornings that didn’t flow well? It fell apart from the beginning. The alarm on your phone didn’t go off, the kids are not moving from their warm snug beds, there is no time for breakfast and the minute you step out the door, keys in one hand, coffee in the other, the dog vomits on the new carpet. Can your day get any worse? Probably, it just started.

“Hey!” You say. “Mitzi, you are the voice of positivity! It has to get better. It just has too!” Well, I say to that, it can get better. It could start better.

We have all heard about the morning routine to make your day start out right. Wake up 30 minutes earlier to write out your intentions for the day and meditate. Sounds so peaceful and lovely doesn’t it? From what I found, waking up 30 minutes earlier to add on more, will not make the morning any easier or less tiring! I have learned the secret to nice stress free mornings. Want to know it? It is...a nightly routine!

Having a routine is an important step to a better healthier life. Routines help us save time, achieve more, think clearly, give us smoother transitions in our day and make the day less stressful! Here is a list of things you can do the night before to give you a little extra umph in the morning.

1.  Fill your water bottle and put it in the fridge...better yet, in the car cup holder.

2. Get your coffee ready. Fill the machine with water, place the filter and grounds in and program it to go off 5 minutes before your alarm wakes you up. Your coffee will be ready and hot when you get downstairs and the smell in the morning is AWESOME!

3.  Write out your list of have to-dos in your day planner. What needs to get done? What permission slip needs signing?

4.  Make your lunches

5.  Have the kids pack up their backpacks and you get your purse ready and in the car! (If you have a garage and park in it, this is great, if not, maybe you are concerned about theft and break ins...leave the bags by the door)

6.  Make sure you know where your car keys are!

7.  Pick out your clothes and place them where you get dressed. I have mine folded by my bed, so I roll out of bed, grab my clothes and shoes, go into the bathroom and get dressed. Done in less than 2 minutes!

8.  After your other nightly routine of jammies, teeth brushing and reading to the kids, read for your own interest. Read a book before you turn out the lights to settle your brain and just relax. Reading will help your sleep better than if you were spending that time shopping on amazon on your phone.

9.  Speaking of phones, get that out of your room. Study show having it there can interrupt your sleep patterns. Use an alarm clock to wake up, keep your room cool and your bed warm.

Establishing a new routine can be difficult. Think about one or two of these ideas on the list to incorporate. Pair the idea with something else you do to start ingraining it in your repertoire. After cleaning up the dinner dishes, you may be by your coffee maker, make the coffee then. When the kids are looking for their library books and homework, look for the items you will need the next morning too. Doing one or two things can give you more time in the morning so it isn’t so helter skelter! One thing we all need is more time and less stress.
